The Shelbyville Fire Department offers a variety of public education opportunities. Each October, at the end of Fire Prevention Week, we invite the public to come visit us at Station #1 for our annual Open House. During the Open House there are many booths set up with a variety of activities and learning experiences from putting out a 'fire' with real water and learning how candy and medications can look very similar to trying on real fire gear and much more!
The Public Education Department has age appropriate classes for grades Pre-K through 5 that build on the children's knowledge year after year. We also speak to middle school and high school classrooms about "A Day in the Life of a Firefighter".
We offer our "Day in the Life of a Firefighter" presentation to other organizations in our community as well to learn what the local Fire Dept. means to them. We also speak to local organizations about fire related topics upon request.
The Shelbyville Fire Department offers tours of our stations upon request where we talk about a day in the life of a Shelbyville firefighter and various fire safety topics.
If you are interested in having us come speak to your class or organization or schedule a tour please contact Firefighter Dyan Current. Dyan's contact information is below.
